By air

 International flights to Turkmenistan are operated by Turkmenistan Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and S7. Turkmenistan Airlines fly to Abu-Dhabi, Amritsar, Bangkok, Birmingham, Deli, London, Beijing, Istanbul and Frankfurt. Further, there are also flights to CIS countries, including Almaty, Kiev, Moscow and Minks. There are almost daily flights from Moscow.

By land

Uzbekistan/Turkmenistan

   Most tourists travelling Uzbekistan combine their tours with Turkmenistan. Between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan there three border check points Farab (Bukhara/Turkmenabad), Shavat (Dashauz/Urgench), Khodjeili (Turkmenistan/Nukus). Whenever you cross one of this border check points Uzbek side will require to present your passport, visa and customs declaration. Turkmenistan side will ask you to present your passport visa, photo and fee (12USD) for migration card.

  Please, be informed that it is possible to get your visas issued while crossing Farab and Dashauz border check points. In case you are planning to get your visa on border then you should have to present your visa invitation letter, 2 copies of completed visa application forms, consular fee, photos, valid passport and fee for migration card.

 While crossing Farab border between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan please note that you should walk about 1 km green line distance as there is no shuttle bus at the moment but while crossing Shavat border check point there is a shuttle bus and distance between border check points is about 2 km.

Border check points between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are normally open from 9 am till 5 pm and lunch time begins at 12.30 pm and lasts till 2 pm.

Iran/Turkmenistan

There are two border check points between Turkmenistan and Iran which are Serakhs and Gowadan.

While crossing borders between Turkmenistan and Iran, please, try to early in the morning or after lunch but not during lunch. There is one hour time difference between Turkmenistan and Iran. So if you arrive into Turkmenistan side during lunch time then you had wait till lunch ends and when you reach Iranian side then you should wait for Iranians this time.

In Serakhs border check point it is not possible to get issued your visa to Turkmenistan but while crossing into Turkmenistan from Iran via Gowadan border check point it is possible to get issued your visa.  Serakhs is 310 km far from Ashgabat while Gowadan is 32 km far from Ashgabat. In Gowadan border check point between Turkmenistan and Iran there is neutral zone (about 30 km) but there is shuttle bus.
